7 Things You Can Do To Attract Cockroaches

With tongue in cheek, we present these 7 ways to attract cockroaches into your home!
  1. Be messy. Never clean up spills and allow things to pile up on your counter.
  2. Allow water to stand in sinks and other containers throughout the house. Moisture is very important to roaches and they love moist areas. They can live longer without food than without water, so keeping things dry will hasten their demise.
  3. Don’t bother storing foods in plastic containers. Leave paper containers open so roaches can easily enter and have their feast. Plastic containers will keep them out!
  4. No need to empty your trash regularly. Cockroaches LOVE trash cans full of old, rotting food and other organic materials. Emptying trash cans regularly will deprive them of what they love most.
  5. Leave pet food out all the time to feed roaches who think they are pets! They’re attracted to pet foods and water and if you put pet food away, it leaves the poor things without easy access to nutrition.
  6. Let your house become as cluttered as you can stand it so roaches have a place to hide. Cockroaches release a pheromone in their droppings which signal to others they have found a safe place to live.
  7. Be sure to leave plenty of open cracks around windows and under doors where cockroaches can find easy access to your home. Sealing these up prevents them from getting in where it’s warm!

For about 70 million years, they have been around! And if history is any indicator, they’ll be around long after we’re gone! They cause screams, repulse even the bravest individual, infest structure of all kinds and reproduce at rates that will amaze you! They are tenacious, will eat nearly anything, love the warmth, food and shelter of your home and run for the cracks and crevices when the light turns on. What are they? COCKROACHES!

Let’s take a look at how the roach can harm your health and have an effect on your happiness:
  1. Asthma. In homes with severe cockroach populations, the incidence of asthma is great. Their allergens can cause severe complications and can even be life-threatening. And people who are not asthmatic may develop cockroach asthma by inhaling cockroach allergens.
  2. Food contamination. A study found that the bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa can multiply extensively in the cockroach’s gut, causing diseases like urinary tract infections and digestive problems.
  3. Food poisoning. The insect harbors the bacterium Salmonella which can cause typhoid and food poisoning.
  4. Allergies. The cockroach’s saliva secretion and body parts contain hundreds of allergens that can trigger an undesirable reaction. You may suffer from skin rashes, sneezing and watery eyes.
So these five reasons are enough to make even the most tolerant individual pick up the phone and call DA Exterminating for our cockroach control services. 800-650-PEST. Call today!
