Mice can do thousands of dollars in damage to a car – both the motor and the interior. We heard of a woman who discovered (while she was driving) several baby mice crawling around the floor of her front seat. (We can only imagine the chaos that took place after that discovery!)
The car was kept immaculate and parked in a clean garage but these little buggers found a way into the insulation behind the glove compartment. All told, it cost about $400 to get the mouse nest out of the car.
The garage showed signs of a mouse infestation, so bait boxes were installed and she has had no problems since.
What mice do! Mice can chew insulation, fuel lines, air filters, ductwork, heat ducts, upholstery, hoses and more. Cars that are stored and undriven for periods of time are particularly susceptible to rodent infestations.
What can you do? A quick internet search recommends moth balls (too stinky) or dryer sheets placed around the motor and interior (which a lot of people say doesn’t really work). Of course, a big cat that lives in your garage might also be a possibility!
